The English Single Cask Heavily Smoked Virgin Oak

“As the leaves fall from our trees and the nights get cold enough to light a fire, it’s the perfect time to sit back and share some whisky. At the distillery, we get the wonderful job of sampling casks and picking just a handful that might make the grade to be bottled as single cask whiskies.

The single cask bottlings are wonderful stories in their own right; each has a history going back years, and the spirit was hand-distilled by the current team or by now-retired distillers. Each cask is unique and a little time capsule that reflects the love the distillery team have bestowed on it each year.

This autumn, we finally chose two casks to bottle. The first is an unpeated 15 year old whisky from an Oloroso Sherry Cask, and the second is a 12 year old smokey whisky from a Virgin Cask. Both are superb single malt whiskies, and both are fabulously drinkable.” Andrew Nelstrop

The English Single Cask Heavily Smoked Virgin Oak is part of our Single Cask range, showcasing the influence of our super oak casks, each type hand-picked for its unique influence on the whisky whilst maturing. Single cask releases are incredibly rare, each one yielding only a few hundred bottles.

The Cask

Virgin oak cask.

The Nose

Rich, earthy peat with layers of caramel, leather and vanilla.

The Palate

This starts with a big hit of smoke followed by rich, oaky caramel with the vanilla coming in later. A dash of water softens the spice and smoke, allowing the caramel and apples to bloom.

The Finish

Longer than expected with the toffee and oak lingering.
