ST.
GEORGE'S DISTILLERY
The distillery produced its first 'run' on 12th December 2006 and it was with much excitement and with an enormous sense of achievement that we filled the first barrel of 'St. George's whisky'. We now produce on average 13 casks a week, building up a good stock of delicious English Whisky.
The Distillery Whisky Shop – rather unusual for a whisky distillery in that we sell everybody else’s whisky but not ours. For those of you that have been following our progress the answer to this rather bizarre situation is quite obvious. Under EU law, the spirit that matures into Whisky cannot be called “Whisky” until it has been in an oak barrel for a minimum of 3years. Roll on Christmas 2009.
Until then we have tried very hard to cater to all tastes (well those that like whisky anyway). We have whiskies from around the world; the furthest afield is Milford, a very easy to drink New Zealand whisky that is no longer in production; some Japanese contenders, Indian, American, etc - You get the picture. Obviously vastly out numbering all the others is our selection of scotch. We have tried to avoid the norm; and therefore we have ended up with a large selection of single cask whiskies, as well as single malts. We have found the most interesting and unique come from the independent bottlers.
All in, we stock approximately 180 different whiskies ranging in price from £17 to £250. We have nearly every age of whisky in stock. Very easy to find the perfect birthday presents.
The visitor center, coffee shop, and gift shop are all doing very well with tours leaving full nearly every weekend. We are recieving good feedback from visitors now but we are always looking at ways to improve the visitors experience. The whisky is now developing a rich mustard colour and the flavour and smell are exceptional. The special edition, first release will be ready for Christmas 09 and this is available for sale now by clicking here and downloading the application form. Everybody else will have to wait for 2010.
In the near future we will be looking at improving access to the beauty that lays in the grounds of the distillery.
